Bed sores are most likely to develop in patients who are in hospitals (60% of cases) followed by Nursing Homes/Institutional Care Centres and lastly Homes.

Actually, nearly 1/3 of patients undergoing surgery for hip fracture develop a pressure ulcer. The longer the patient stays in a hospital or nursing home, the greater the likelihood of developing a pressure ulcer.

However, if bed sores do develop and are left uncared for in a patient at home, then they are more difficult to treat because of the lack of trained medical staff usually found in hospitals.
