All walking equipment should be checked regularly for signs of wear and tear. Vulnerable parts include the ferrules, which must be replaced if the rubber shows signs of cracking. Equipment that is height adjustable can show signs of stress at the height setting after prolonged use. If there is wear and tear at the height adjustment, then the walking equipment will have to be replaced. Handgrips may also need to be replaced. Branded products have replacements available for ferrules and handgrips.

Metal sheet used for making the walking equipment is chrome plated which gives rust protection. Care needs to be maintained so that the chrome plating is not damaged as otherwise metal rusts easily.
